June has been an insane month for comics, and it’s closing out with a bang! Our friends from ‘A Comic Shop‘ highlight some of their top picks in the video and I’ll give my input as well.
DC Comics lands their final punch of the month with the highly anticipated release of Batman / Superman #1 which shares stories of early team-ups of our two favorite DC heroes. If you’re a big Bat-fan like I am, Ethan Van Sciver returns for what I think is the conclusion to The Mad Hatter story arc in Batman: The Dark Knight #21. Justice League #21 also concludes the Shazam side story. We also go deeper into what happened to Catwoman in Justice League of America #5 after she was shot in the head. Next month begins the ‘Trinity War’ between Justice League, Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark. Aquaman and Talon have been fun books for me and I can’t wait to pick them up. Vertigo off DC has Wake #2 from Scott Snyder.
Moving on to Marvel, Aaron highlights Hawkeye #11 and gives it praise for it’s creativity – I totally agree that it’s a great book about a hero not taken seriously. Age of Ultron #10AI is the final revolution for Hank Pym and Ultron, written by the incredible Mark Waid. X-Men #2 is out by Wood and Coipel continuing a story for the series advertised as an ‘all female X-Men book’. Some other mutant related books getting an honorable mention are All-New X-Men #13 and Uncanny X-Men #7 both by Brian Michael Bendis, as well as Wolverine and the X-Men #32 by Jason Aaron.
Some big indie books include Lazarus #1 by Greg Rucka which I’ve been looking forward to after his badass Punisher run! Also Jupiter’s Legacy #2 has been pretty dope. Aaron obsesses over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #23 and I don’t blame him, everyone loves turtles, man! Just ask Jonathan the Zombie!
Enjoy your comics this week! I’ll be picking apart most of these titles in a few days
